Generals Take On The Petes

As the Generals continued their pre-season road trip they visited their long time rival, Peterborough Pete’s. The Generals took on the Pete’s in front of 1898 fans on Thursday night with both sides hungry for the first win of the pre-season.

The Generals came out strong and ready to get the job done, at the 2:48 mark of the opening period Generals Adam Lloyd gave the Generals the lead. Peterborough answered back late in the period to tie things up a 1. Oshawa outshot the Pete’s 14-6 in the opening period.

Oshawa came out with a fast paced, hard hitting second period and answered with a goal from Tyler Hore early in the second. The Generals high energy continued throughout the period and mid-way through the second Cole Cassels makes it 3-1 Oshawa.  Lucas Lessio scored the 3rd unanswered goal for Oshawa at the 16 minute mark of the second and The Generals end the period up 4-1.

Generals Vet Boone Jenner adds to the lead making it 5-1 Oshawa one minute into the 3rd period. The score board stayed the same for the remainder of the game except for the penalty and shot clock. After several fights then buzzer finalizes the game and the generals return home with a 5-1 victory over the Peterborough Pete’s and a record of 1-1. General’s goalie Daniel Altshuller can’t go without mention after stopping 25 of 26 shots on net. Oshawa outshot the Pete’s 34-26 on Thursday night.

Generals Next Pre-Season game will be Saturday Night at the Ajax Community Centre at 7:05pm as they take on the Peterborough Pete’s. This should be a great game as the Pete’s look for revenge and the Generals look to shut out the Pete’s in Pre-Season action.

The Oshawa Generals will play back to back games against the Belleville Bulls on Tuesday Night at 7:05pm in Bowmanville at the Garnet B Rickard Recreation Complex and then again Friday Night Sept 14th at 7:00pm in Uxbridge to close out their pre-season action.

Tickets for these games and all Generals games are available at the GMC Box Office.

Generals Vs Pete's Rival

Oshawa Generals Take On Rival Peterborough Pete’s In Pre-Season Action

As the Oshawa Generals head into Peterborough for their 2nd pre-season game on Thursday they will take on their arch rival, Peterborough Pete’s. Both these teams are 0 and 1 in the pre-season this far and are hungry for their first win. Peterborough lost 4-2 against the Mississauga Steelheads on Sunday night and Oshawa’s hard fought battle on Monday afternoon against the Niagara Ice Dogs resulted in a 6-5 loss. The Oshawa / Peterborough rivalry continues and as always makes for a great start to the season.

One of the biggest questions out there is where will Tyler Biggs end up? Coach DJ Smith clearly hopes that the Toronto Maple Leafs believe that Oshawa is the best place for Tyler to develop. Tyler is a big body that the generals could use in front of the net and is also is very smart with the puck. Tyler’s size would be a big benefit to the generals in many departments.

The generals also have the factor of over aged players... Who will stay and who will they have to move? Generals GM Jeff Twohey and Coaching staff will have this pressing issue to deal with as well. With 4 pre-season games to go for the generals, who will impress the most or who will fit into their game plan?

The Generals will have Daniel Altshuller in goal and Ken Appleby will be along to back up Daniel. Daniel Altshuller was in a battle with Kevin Bailie last year and with the offseason trade of Kevin to the London Knights this opened the door for Daniel to become #1 goalie for the generals and play some solid goaltending this year.

All this and more to come.....

Reminder: Generals open their regular season in Peterborough on Sept 20th 2012 at 7:05pm.

Oshawa Generals Lucas Lessio

Oshawa Generals own Lucas Lessio has signed a Entry Level Contract with the Phoenix Coyotes. Lucas was the 2nd round draft pick for the coyotes in 2011.  19 year old Lucas Lessio of Maple Ontario was tied for the lead in goals and second in points for the Oshawa Generals last year with 34 goals 25 assists in 66 regular season games and added an additional 3 goals and 2 assists in the 6 playoff games with the Generals. Lucas was a part of Team Canada in the Canada-Russia Challenge as scored a goal in game #4 to help Team Canada to its victory.  A huge congratulation goes out to Lucas as he earns his way into an NHL entry level contract the first of many I am sure.

Oshawa Generals VS Niagara Ice Dogs (Pre-Season)

Oshawa Generals VS Niagara Ice Dogs (Pre-Season)

As the Oshawa Generals have closed up training camp at the GMC in Oshawa these kids who have earned their way this far had a chance to play their first exhibition game of the 2012/13 season VS the Niagara Ice Dogs Monday afternoon. As the Generals were resting some of the veterans Monday this opened the gates for some of the rookies to show their skill on the ice in pre-season action.

As the Generals open their 2012/13 pre-season they not only welcome aboard some fresh new rookies to the team but also a full lineup of coaching staff and a new general manager. Players and Fans of the Oshawa Generals welcome these new faces to the team. General Manager Jeff Twohey, Coach DJ Smith along with Assistant Coach Jeff Mcfarland, Welcome to the club boys.

As the generals stepped onto the ice Monday afternoon and played their first pre-season game, it opened with a bit of a slow start for the Generals. Oshawa was down 1-0 with only 3:04 played in the first but Scott Sabourin was quick to respond with a power play goal at the 4:49 marker to even things up. Niagara battled hard and regained the lead just over half way through the opening 20 mins. Oshawa battled back hard but fell short as the buzzer sounded to end the opening period.

Oshawa came out strong in the second and as Niagara scored another to put them up 3-1 Oshawa was not going to lay down, Oshawa’s Cole Cassels answered back at the 6:35 mark of the second period to make it 3-2. David Sysala of the Niagara Ice Dogs regained the 2 goal lead to make it 4-2, then just after the half way mark Niagara snaps in another one to make it 5-2. With less than 5 mins remaining in the 2nd the Oshawa Generals pull it together and answer back with 3 straight goals late in the 2nd, goals by Adam Lloyd, Brian Huges & Josh Brown tie things up at 5 to end the 2nd period.

As this game was a hard fought game back and forth, at the 17:01 mark of the 3rd period Brock Beukeboom taps in his second of the game to give Niagara the lead 6-5 and that’s the way this one ended, As the Generals fall 6-5 to the Ice Dogs in a hard fought battle by both teams and a good display of what’s to come in the regular season.

The Generals next pre-season game is against the Peterborough Pete’s on Thursday Sept 6th @ 7:00PM.

Oshawa Generals Final Day Of Training Camp

As the Oshawa Generals training camp comes to a close there were still two Red & White games to be played. Players had one last day to really prove themselves.

With team whites win yesterday they came out with confidence and full of energy meanwhile team red was ready for redemption.

Red/White Game #2
Team Red’s Boone Jenner opened the scoring less than thirty seconds into the first period. Team Red was full tilt ahead as Cole Cassels makes it 2-0 but team white woke up quickly and answered with a goal from Lucas Lessio to make it 2-1. Jared Dennis was ready to be noticed by coaching staff and fans alike as he snaps in a beauty for Team Red to give them a 2 goal lead once again. As the puck hits the ice Team Whites Lucas Lessio was once again quick to answer the call and make it 3-2. Generals Vet Boone Jenner wasn’t willing to sit back and let Team Whites Lucas Lessio be top dog as Boone taps his second of the game in to make it 4-2, But once again who is there at the doorstep to tip in his third of the game and make it 4-3 that’s right Lucas Lessio earns the hat trick as the first period comes to a close.
As the 2nd period begins Team White was eager to tie the game and Generals Vet Emerson Clark taps in a rebound past Daniel Altshuller to give them exactly what they were looking for. Both teams kept up the pressure at both ends as fast paced end to end hockey was exciting the fans. Team Red’s Scott Sabourin nets his first of the camp from a beautiful setup by Boone Jenner making it 5-4. Team White answered with hard hitting action to try and slow down the pace but Team Red’s Tyler Biggs answered with the insurance goal as he beats Justin Tugwell to make it 6-4 in the late part of the final period. As the buzzer sounds Team Red celebrates their win and gets ready for game 3 for bragging rights.

Red/White Game #3
As fans entered the arena through gate 1 you could feel the energy it was the final game of the Oshawa Generals Training Camp, it was do or die for some of the young players as well as a chance for some of the over aged players to earn a spot on that final roster. This is a game to earn a place on the roster, bragging rights in the locker room and a memory that all these players will never forget.
Adam Lloyd opens the scoring in the first as he snaps in a rebound in past Austin Washkurak to make it 1-0. Generals Vet Christian Thomas gets a cheer out of the crowd as he puts one behind Austin Washkurak to make it 2-0. Both sides had their chances but goalies at both ends close the door to keep the game at 2-0 as the period comes to a close.
Team Red’s Josh Brown slaps one from outside the blue line past Ken Appleby to make it 2-1. Team White is quick to answer as whom else but Lucas Lessio taps in a rebound to open up the lead 3-1. Ken Appleby stands on his head in the second to kill off a 5-3 and keep the game within reach. Team red was putting on the pressure in the final minutes of the period and was rewarded with a goal by Scott Sabourin and put the game to with a single goal. Team Red’s goalie Daniel Altshuller heads to the bench for the extra attacker in the last minute of play but Team White’s Christian Thomas buts the puck into the empty net to make it 4-2 in the final seconds. Team White pulls it off and has earned bragging rights, but on the mind of all players as they step off the ice is that spot on the roster.
As the players camp comes to an end the coaching staff now has their work cut out for them and their camp is not over yet.

I’d like to congratulate each and every player that stepped onto the ice with a red, white or blue Oshawa Generals jersey on this year.

Generals Traning Camp Day #3

Game #3 – Team Blue vs. Team Red
Team Red jumped onto the ice with a high from their win over Team White yesterday, while Team Blue was looking to prove themselves after their loss yesterday. Emotions were high for all players with just one scrimmage left before this afternoons cuts after the game.
Team Red was first to capitalize when Jimmy Cusan took off on a breakaway and snuck one by goalie Justin Tugwell and within five minutes Team Red was up 1-0.

Team Blue got their game together and had tied things up when Kelly Summers hammered one off the post and past goalender Ken Appleby.

Generals Training Camp is always full of energy and nerves for the players but this year the fans got a taste of extra excitement when Team Blue’s Brett Seney was rewarded with a penalty shot and slipped one past Ken Appleby to give Team Blue a 2-1 lead. Team Blue wasn’t about to be the only team without a win.
Period 2 was back and forth hockey for the first half and Team Red was rewarded with a goal as Lucas Lessio made his way through the defense and scored for Team Red tie it at 2. Team Blue kept up the pressure and were rewarded when Michael Dal Colle sets up Tyler Biggs to put Team Blue ahead 3-2. Team Blue wasn’t finished as Corey Caruso tucked away the insurance goal. In the final minutes Team Blue scored two empty net goals one by Michael Dal Colle And Chris Carlisle.
Prelim cuts are being made and the remaining players will be assigned to either Team Red or Team White. Oshawa Generals Red/White games will be held this afternoon and two more tomorrow at Oshawa’s own GMC. This afternoon’s game will be at 3:45 PM.

Red/White Game 1 – Team Red vs. Team White
Training camp continues this afternoon without thirteen players after this afternoons prelim cuts. Team Red and Team White took the ice for the first of three games, also containing 2 thirty minute periods.
Roster spots are what these kids are out fighting for. The game started off heated and hard-hitting with chances for both team. As the teams fight for the opening marker Team Whites Ryan Burns snaps one past Austin Washkurak to give them the lead.
As the second period continues it continues to be a hard fought battle. Team Red‘s Matthew Hore took off on the break away and with high hopes Matthew tries the wrap around on Justin Tugwell but Justin closes the door and keeps the game under control. Team White kept up the pressure too and Lucas Lessio snaps one off the post of Daniel Altshuller, but as they say “A goalies best friend” saves the day. Team Red pulled Daniel Altshuller for the extra attacker and Matt Petgrave had to step in to play net minder in his absence. As time winds down Team White’s Lucas Lessio sends the puck into the empty net to give Team White the 2-0 lead and with seconds left that’s the way this one finished.

Oshawa Generals Camp Day #2

Please note the Oshawa Generals play two 30 min periods in camp not only to allow players to show their skill but also their endurance of strength and health. Coaches want highly skilled, fit, healthy, smart hockey players.

Game #1 (Team White vs Team Red)
Both teams came out to a high energy first period with chances at both ends of the rink. Emotions were flying and so were the bodies, veterans welcoming some guys back and also welcoming some of the young guys to the OHL. Although it seemed like no one could tap the puck past either goalie and period one was winding down, team red’s Stefano Alonzi snaps one passed team whites goalie Daniel Altshuller to open the scoring. Team white came out in period two with revenge on the brain.

A very aggressive defensive team showed up to play and but still was unable to sneak one past team reds Ken Appleby. Team Red took the opening game 1-0.

Game #2 (Team White vs Team Blue)
Team white came out to prove themselves and was ready to take their frustrations out on team blue. Generals vet Emerson Clark was the first to tap one in past team blues goalie Justin Tugwell and put team white up 1-0.
Team white kept up the pressure and before you knew it team white was up 2-0 with a goal from vet Matt Petgrave. Team blue wasnt about to give up as vet John Urbanic taps one in past team whites goalie Austin Washkurak to make it 2-1. After 30 mins of play that’s the way the period would finish.
Period 2 started off with team white fighting to hold the lead but team blue was all over them and got rewarded with a goal from Corey Caruso to tie it at 2. As the period went on you could see both sides getting tired but neither team was willing to give in. Team whites Matt Petgrave efforts get rewarded and taps in his second of the game to make it 3-2. Team blue still giving it everything they got with seconds left on the clock and their goalie pulled and with a remarkable effort to say the least they could not find a hole anywhere in team whites goalie Daniel Altshuller. Team White pulls off the win 3-2 over team blue.
Oshawa Generals training camp continues tomorrow as team red takes on team blue. There will be a midday cut that will take place and the 3 teams will be cut down to 2 and team red will take on team white at 345pm at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa.
These teams will also be at it again saturday at 915am and then the last red and white game will be at 345pm at Oshawa’s own GMC.
